Clemson Football: Tigers make offer to 4-star DE in wake of de-commitment
The Clemson football program suffered its first decommitment in several years, but the Tigers are still recruiting at a high level.
The Clemson football program suffered its first decommitment in nearly a half-decade when 5-star DE Korey Foreman announced that he would be decommitting to take his official visits.
Though the Tigers are still very much recruiting Foreman, they are also beginning to look in other directions when it comes to filling the other defensive end opening in the class.
On Tuesday, 4-star DE Keanu Koht announced an offer from Clemson football.
Koht, a resident of Vero Beach, Fla, has more than 40 offers and actually already released a top-nine group that included Georgia, LSU, Florida, Alabama, Oregon, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Mississippi State and Miami.
Koht is ranked as the No. 246 overall player nationally and the No. 16 WDE in the country. He is also listed as the No. 35 player in the state of Florida, according to the 247 Sports’ Composite Player Rankings.
Despite the fact that he released a group of top schools, there’s reason to believe that the Clemson football coaching staff can get into the picture.
Koht was clearly a player that piqued the interest of the staff earlier on in his recruitment, but the Tigers had already met their numbers with the Foreman commitment and they aren’t going to over-recruit with scholarship numbers.
Now, with an opening at the defensive end spot, there’s no reason to believe that the Tigers will wait on Foreman to make a decision if Koht shows legitimate interest. If recruiting visits are able to resume at some point in the future, the Tigers will likely have the opportunity to get the 4-star DE back on campus and make a pitch.
It will be interesting to see how this saga plays out at defensive end and what ends up happening as the Tigers progress through the rest of the 2021 recruiting cycle.
