Clemson football: Tigers lose commitment of nations top recruit

Clemson football lost the commitment from the top player in the 2021 recruiting cycle, for now.

College football recruiting is the lifeblood of every college football program in America, including Clemson. Over the last several seasons, Clemson football has been recruiting at a level that they had never experienced.

Sure, the Tigers have pulled in a few top-ranked guys here and there, but they had never had classes like they had over the last two seasons. The one area that Clemson has excelled in is development on their way to two national titles in the last few years.

In 2020, the Tigers pulled in three of the top five recruits in the country and were heading that way again in 2021 when California defensive end Korey Foreman committed to the Tigers a couple of months ago.

There had been rumors for the last week that he was wavering on that commitment and wanted to take all five of his official visits, which is a no-no for players that commit to Clemson. Unlike many other programs, when Clemson provides an offer, it is committable right then and there. When a player commits to the Clemson football, the Tigers commit to that player as well and will not over sign their classes.

In the very dirty world of recruiting, Clemson football is as clean a program as you will find.

Foreman will be just the 11th decommit that Clemson football has had under Dabo Swinney and more than half of them came in the 2013 class when the Tigers had six decommits in that signing class. Since 2015, the Tigers have had just three decommits and one of them, Shaq Smith, ended up signing with the Tigers.

According to 247 Sports, here are the Clemson football decommits under Coach Swinney and where they ended up signing.

2013 – 6

2014 – 2

2016 – 1

  • Shaq Smith (Clemson)

2017 – 1

  • Cordarrian Patterson (Texas A&M)

2021 – 1

  • Korey Foreman (TBD)

Clemson football is going to lose recruits along the way, it is part of the business. But the Clemson football staff has shown that they end up with the right guys every year and turn them into champions.

Whether Korey Foreman ends up a Tiger or not, we wish him all the best in his future and hopefully, he will make the best decision for himself.
