Last Friday, Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney upset people across the country when he stated he was positive that college football would be played in 2020.

While there are many people that appreciated his optimism, there were just as many doomsday believers that thought he was irresponsible with that proclamation and undoubtedly there were a few that hope is wrong.

They hope he is wrong, not because they wish ill-well on the masses across the globe but because it would mean they would not have to lose to Clemson football in 2020. Of course, I am talking about the fans in Columbia, who could not wait to voice their insane opinions on a coach that has embarrassed them for the last six seasons.

In case you are wondering, as of today, it has been 2,319 days since the University of Sick Chickens beat Clemson in football. Sure, they love to claim non-NCAA events like fishing and equestrian (though, they love to call Clemson fans rednecks) and other non-sporting events like blood giving marathon (there are no losers in this event), but the fact is not having to play Clemson in 2020 is just as good as a win to them.

This is how desperate that they have become in Columbia, that they would rather a season be canceled than have to play arguably the greatest college football ever assembled. Can’t really blame them for this outlook though, they cried two years ago that the gap was closing and 2020 would show them just how far they are falling and at the speed of light.

By the time the 2020 matchup arrives, there will have been 2,555 days since the last time Carolina beat Clemson in football and 2,926 days since they will have beaten Clemson in Clemson. If Clemson football had that type losing streak going, I may not want them to play either. Thankfully, we don’t have to think about that nonsense.
