Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney is more than just a great coach and mentor, he has to be one of the best bosses in the game.

The Clemson football program was built from the bottom-up by Dabo Swinney.

More than a decade after taking over the program, Swinney has transformed Clemson football into a powerhouse. The Tigers have won two of the last four National Championships, made five-straight CFB Playoff appearances and don’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.

While we focus on the success of Swinney on the football field quite often, we shouldn’t forget one important characteristic about the Head Coach: He’s a great boss, as well.

There’s a reason that Clemson assistants don’t want to leave the program. It’s not just because they’re enjoying winning football games and building relationships with young players, either.

It greatly has to do with the fact that Swinney is a great boss.

He consistently is a part of giving his assistant coaches raises and promoting from within. Just last week, several raises were reported for the Clemson football coaching staff and those raises made the Tiger assistants the highest-paid group in the country.

But it’s not just about the money, either.

Clemson is one of the only programs in the nation that preaches ‘family first’ and practices what it preaches.

The coaches are allowed to have their children on the sidelines during games and each family plays an active role in the program. Swinney methodically gives his coaches time off and looks for ways to get them home earlier so they have more time with their families. That kind of culture is hard to find.

So, to review: Raises, time off, more time with your family, and a boss that is going to put in just as much as you. It seems like he checks off all the boxes.

People can say what they want about Dabo Swinney. They can try to paint him as this ‘evil cult leader with a hidden agenda,’ but the facts speak for themselves. Swinney looks after his players. He looks after his staff.

And the truth is this: Swinney may be the best boss ever.
