Clemson Football: Comparing LSU Tigers with Ohio State Buckeyes
The Clemson football team will take on the LSU Tigers in the National Championship. Here’s our comparison of LSU with Ohio State.
The Clemson football team was a slight-favorite in the match-up with Ohio State a couple of weeks ago in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl, but the Tigers enter the National Championship as underdogs.
Clemson is listed as a 5.5-point underdog against LSU, courtesy of the Action Network.
As the Tigers prepare to take on the LSU Tigers, we decided to go back and look at the Ohio State Buckeyes and compare Ohio State with the Bayou Bengals.
Here’s a look at our comparison of the two teams.
LSU Offense vs. Ohio State Offense
The Clemson football defense is going to be facing its toughest task of the season when the Tigers take the field against LSU.
Ohio State is extremely talented offensively, but the only advantage that I’d give to the Buckeyes in terms of comparison with LSU is at running back. J.K. Dobbins is a better rusher and receiver out of the backfield than probably any other running back in the nation, possibly with the exception of Travis Etienne.
Joe Burrow is a better passer of the football than Justin Fields and LSU has a more talented and deeper wide receiver core. The two teams have about equal offensive line, with Ohio State probably having more pure talent, to be honest.
LSU Defense vs. Ohio State Defense
When you look at the two defensively, there are some similarities.
On paper, LSU has just as much talent in the secondary as Ohio State, but the Tigers haven’t been as consistent and they’ve been beaten. They’ve got some talented cover-men, but I still would give a definitive advantage to the Buckeyes based on talent, depth and performance.
There’s really no comparison between the two when you talk about front-seven. Ohio State has the better front-seven far-and-away. The Buckeyes are extremely physical up-front and impose their will. LSU, on the other hand, has talent, but it’s by no means as physical or deep as what the Buckeyes possess.
Overall, when you look at the two teams, you can tell that both are extremely talented. However, I would favor Ohio State against LSU if they were playing and I think that bodes well for Clemson football.
LSU has the more explosive offense, but Ohio State has the more dominant defense. There are a few areas that Clemson can exploit offensively against LSU that weren’t necessarily there against Ohio State.
