The Clemson football team will take on Ohio State in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl for what is projected to be a token home game for the Buckeyes.
As the lower seed, the Clemson football team will be wearing its white jerseys a few weeks from now when the Tigers take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl. That’s certainly fitting for this matchup.
According to Vivid Seats’ projections, Clemson football fans are expected to be out-numbered 38 percent to 62 percent in favor of Ohio State.
The Buckeyes have a huge fanbase in the Phoenix and Glendale area that gives them a decided advantage over Clemson football fans, who will mostly be traveling from the east coast.
In addition to the fact that Ohio State has a fanbase closer to the venue, it should also be noted that Tiger fans have been traveling all over the country the past few years, racking up huge bills in the process.
The average trip for one Clemson football fan out to Arizona for a few days is more than $1,5000 when you include airfare, nights in a hotel and tickets to the game.
Early in the process, it’s clear that many Tiger fans are attempting to save their money for the National Championship game in New Orleans. It’s pretty obvious that Clemson fans would’ve filled up the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta had the Tigers been selected for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, but making the trip out west- yet another time- just isn’t in the budget for many.
It’s just another obstacle for Clemson football to overcome on its path to repeating as National Champions and it will be interesting to see what the fan count really looks like when it’s all said and done.
If the Tigers do beat Ohio State in a token home game for the Buckeyes, the reward will more than likely be playing LSU in New Orleans.
