Clemson Football: 4 Reasons the Tigers blowout South Carolina
4. South Carolina has struggled offensively
Clemson has actually played some teams with a decent offensive pulse this season, including Wake Forest, Boston College, North Carolina and Louisville. All four of those teams rank inside the top-30 in terms of total offense this season.
South Carolina, on the other hand, has struggled mightily- especially as of late- on the offensive side of the ball.
The Gamecocks rank No. 76 in the nation in total offense, averaging 389.9 yards per game.
South Carolina hasn’t scored over 30 points since a 72-10 rout of Charleston Southern back in the beginning of September. The Gamecocks scored 23 points against Alabama, but only could muster 14 against Missouri in a loss. In the month of November, South Carolina scored 24 points against Vanderbilt, but just 15 points against Appalachian State and six against Texas A&M- both in losing efforts.
Ryan Hilinski has looked good at times, but has also made several freshmen mistakes. The Gamecocks have struggled to remain healthy, as well, which has accounted for some of their struggles.
Either way, when you give a Clemson defense that is ranked No. 2 in the nation in total defense this Gamecock offense, you know there’s a good chance the Tigers have another milestone-kind-of-day defensively.
