In the spirit of Halloween, let’s take a look back at five recent ‘Haunting Experiences’ that Clemson football fans had to live through.

The Clemson football program hasn’t always been a national powerhouse as it is currently.

Over the course of history, the Tigers have lost games against teams they were more talented than, suffered blowouts at the hands of powerhouses, and come up short in games they very well could’ve won.

Looking back at the history of Clemson football, some of the most notable ‘Haunting Experiences’ happened in games against rivals like Florida State, Georgia and even South Carolina on occasion. One of the most notable ones came in 1988 when Bobby Bowden reeled off one of the most infamous moments in College Football history.

The game was tied at 21 apiece late in the fourth quarter and Florida State faced a fourth down from their own 20-yard line. What happened next has become known as the ‘Puntrooskie.’ The ball was snapped to the upback and he placed the ball in between the legs of a Seminole by the name of LeRoy Butler. FSU Punter Tim Corlew sold the snap as if it had gone over his head and Butler took off running down the left sideline all the way to the Clemson 1-yard line.

That moment probably lives in infamy in terms of ‘haunting experiences’ among Clemson football fans, but there are plenty of others- especially under Tommy West and Tommy Bowden.

But today- in the spirit of Halloween– we’ve elected to look back at five more recent ‘Haunting Experiences’ for Tiger fans, all of which came during the Dabo Swinney era.
