Clemson Football: 5 Things Trevor Lawrence must do to become the GOAT
4. Set some passing records
Though stats aren’t everything, they certainly are something.
Lawrence’s main competition in the stat category, when it comes to quarterbacks, is going to be Tajh Boyd and Deshaun Watson.
Watson holds the top two seasons in terms of passing yards (4,593 in 2016 and 4,104 in 2015), but Boyd holds the overall record for career passing yards (11,904). Watson is second on the list with 10,163 yards.
As far as passing touchdowns are concerned, Boyd is the all-time leader with 107 and Watson is second with 90. It also should be pointed out that Boyd is the all-time leader in total touchdowns (rushing, passing or receiving) with 133 and Watson is second with 116.
Lawrence doesn’t necessarily have to break all of those records, but he does need to get his name in that conversation. He likely needs a season that breaks at least one of Watson’s season passing yard records and he definitely needs to be close in terms of passing yardage for his career when he leaves.
A couple of 4,000-plus yard passing seasons and Lawrence would have a chance at the career record.
