Could Clemson football use a little more wildcat? Freshman Derion Kendrick looked very capable in getting the Tigers some yards in the specialized package.

The Clemson football offense has continuously improved over the past few weeks.

The Tigers have gone from being just a solid offense to becoming one of the best in the nation. They are currently ranked inside the top-10 and have a ton of prolific play makers.

We all know a lot of what we’ll see the rest of this season.

We’ll see more of Trevor Lawrence distributing the ball to that talented wide receiver corp, especially to guys like Tee Higgins, Justyn Ross, Amari Rodgers and Hunter Renfrow.

We’ll see that rushing attack continue to thrive with Travis Etienne leading the way.

But, one thing we saw in the Louisville game that we could see at specialized times was the reintroduction of the wildcat with freshman Derion Kendrick.

Kendrick in the wildcat?

When you’ve only got one football, it’s tough to have so many play makers. At wide receiver, you’ve got guys like Higgins, Ross, Rodgers, Renfrow, Kendrick, Trevion Thompson and many others.

At running back, you’ve got Etienne, Tavien Feaster, Adam Choice and Lyn-J Dixon.

Could the Tigers perhaps find a way to get Derion Kendrick a few snaps here or there in the wildcat? Letting the true-freshman run a little read-option isn’t the worst idea in the world every now and then.

Perhaps it could be an asset to the Tigers in a 2nd and 3-type situation. You let him come in, take the snap and run the option with Travis Etienne. Just for one play here or there.

It’s not something that we’ll see every game or that we’d want to see every game, but it could be something to have in your back pocket just to throw something different out for opponents to have to strategize for.

Just when they think Kendrick is going to run the ball, he goes play action and gets the ball out to Tee Higgins or Justyn Ross.

In the end, we’ll probably never really see that much of this formation. Why would the Tigers want to take the ball out of Trevor Lawrence’s hands? But, it’s still a fun wrinkle to think about in that prolific offense.
