5. Secondary Coverage

The first area we want to start with is secondary coverage.

While the Tigers did a fair job last season in the secondary, they certainly could stand to improve. I saw way too much hands on wide receivers and questionable plays.

There were many times last season where Clemson was indeed committing pass interference and got away with it. There were also some times where the Tigers clearly weren’t or it was a judgement call and it went against them.

You have to be physical, but you also have to be a good enough defender that you don’t get caught out of position or only covering the receiver when you should’ve turned your head and located the ball.

It’s a tough art to master, but the Tigers will need to have better secondary coverage this season. If they do, this Clemson football defense could be the best in school history.
