Clemson football began Summer I session workouts yesterday. The road to a national championship begins in the grind of the summer.

Clemson football began Summer I session workouts Monday.

The Tigers will spend the better part of the summer going through weight lifting and heavy conditioning as they prepare for the upcoming season.

While Clemson fans don’t get to see or be a part of this process, the summer is where the road to a national championship begins.

If you’ve ever played a sport on any level, you’ve learned the importance of conditioning your body in a way that it’s able to perform at its highest level.

That’s what these guys are doing now.

Putting in the work…

The work that the Clemson football players put in now will be the toughness that carries them through the grind of a long season.

It will be the strength they need to hold up when their legs get tired in the fourth quarter.

It will be the speed they gain to outrun opponents or make a play.

While none of us see summer workouts, they are certainly one of the most important parts of the process. Last season, it was clear from what we heard that guys like Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell, and Austin Bryant were leaders on the defensive side of the ball.

Kelly Bryant and a few others were leaders on the offensive side of the ball.

You need player leaders to step up during these months. It’s easy to shortcut workouts or not give your all. When your peers step up and lead by example, that’s when you have the best summer.

They encourage one another and together they get better.

The summer is when we see guys emerge. The summer is when we see transformation. The summer is the first stop on the road that leads to a national championship.
