Clemson Football 2018: Predicting the Post-Spring Depth Chart at WR

COLUMBIA, SC - NOVEMBER 25: Tee Higgins /

The Clemson football wide receiver position is one of the best in the nation. Here is our prediction for how the wide-outs shape out following the spring.

Clemson football will release a post-spring depth chart later this month.

It is (more or less) a chance for fans to see where players stand after the spring and heading into summer workouts.

Over the next couple of weeks, Rubbing the Rock will be predicting the depth chart for each position. So far, we’ve done the quarterbacks and running backs.

Today, we will take a look at the wide receivers.

*Note: We will use “X” for the boundary receiver, “Y” for the ‘slot’, and “Z” for the ‘field’*

Clemson Football Post-Spring Depth Chart: Wide Receivers

X- Tee Higgins

  • Diondre Overton

Y- Hunter Renfrow

  • Trevion Thompson
  • TJ Chase

Z- Amari Rodgers

  • Cornell Powell
  • Derion Kendrick

These are the guys that you’ll be seeing in the two-and-three deep.

Justyn Ross will join Higgins and Overton whenever he arrives on campus later this summer. I thought about Powell switching over to defensive back, which has been something people have been saying.

I think that may make sense because I believe that Derion Kendrick will beat him out for the second-string spot before it’s all said and done.

Kendrick will be listed third, most likely, on the depth chart, but he will quickly move up.

I think Tee Higgins has pretty much stamped his name in as a starter at the boundary position, assuming that he continues to work hard. He’s a beast and is just on a different level. We will see a healthy dose of all these guys, though, and they will all get a chance to prove themselves on the field.

It’s clear to me that this group of wide receivers may be the most talented and deepest that the Tigers have had in school history. Certainly it ranks up there at the very least.
