Throughout the spring and the summer, we will spotlight several Clemson football players for the upcoming season. Today, we take a look at Kelly Bryant.

Throughout the remainder of spring and in the summer, Rubbing the Rock will spotlight many Clemson football players for the 2018 season.

The spotlight gives us a chance to take an in-depth look at all the different Tigers, many of them that deserve some coverage, but get overlooked.

Today, we’ll start the Clemson football spotlight with quarterback Kelly Bryant.

Clemson Football Player Profile:

Name: Kelly Bryant

Position: Quarterback

Height: 6-4”

Weight: 220

Class: Senior

Analysis:

Kelly Bryant may be the most polarizing figure in recent Clemson football history, at least among the fans.

Many Tiger fans have already written him off and turned their attention to talented sophomore Hunter Johnson or true-freshman Trevor Lawrence.

While it’s easy to be fascinated by the star power behind Bryant, we shouldn’t forget that KB2 led the Tigers to a 12-win season with an ACC Championship and a College Football Playoff appearance.

He has several things to work on, including the downfield passing game and pocket presence, but I think he will take good steps forward this season. According to Pro Football Focus, Kelly Bryant was the best downfield passer in the ACC last season, as far as passer efficiency is concerned.

There’s no doubt that Bryant has a cannon for an arm, he just really needs to work on accuracy and calming down. In my opinion, he seemed to just get a little uneasy in the pocket at times where his timing was thrown off.

I think he will also get better due to the skill position players around him. With the likes of Tee Higgins, Amari Rodgers, Hunter Renfrow, and many others, I believe you’ll see a more confident and poised Kelly Bryant in 2018.

So far in the spring, the coaches have been impressed with Kelly Bryant and it’s clear that he wants to get better.

Kelly has gone on the record saying “he’s not going anywhere” and I believe he will do everything he can to keep the starting job.

No matter what you think about Bryant, it’s clear that he will play an important part for Clemson football in some capacity this season. His athleticism, leadership, and explosiveness are great assets for the Tigers and I look forward to seeing him this upcoming season.
