Clemson Football: Lowe to the Vols could mean Deal to the Tigers
With a recent commitment from a tight end prospect who was once considered a lean to Clemson football, could an in-state recruit be the next 2019 commit for the Tigers.
At 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Cartersville High(Ga) tight end Jackson Lowe, a former teammate of freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence, committed to the University of Tennessee, a sort of homecoming, because he was born in Tennessee before moving to Georgia at the age of three.
About six weeks ago, as he racked up offer after offer, he appeared to be leaning towards the Tigers.
But in subsequent weeks, he visited Tennessee and another state of Georgia recruit, Jaelyn Lay from Riverdale High, committed to the Tigers.
Lay visited the Clemson campus for the first time in January on Junior Day and got an offer, and then he returned for the Mar. 3rd Junior Day and committed. Prior to his commitment, another tight end prospect visited the campus on Mar. 2., Luke Deal.
Deal, Emerald High(SC), received an offer from the Clemson coaches on Feb. 26 and after Lowe’s commitment, he is the favorite to be the second tight end for this class. Deal, actually, has a higher 247Sports national positional ranking(No. 13) than both Lay(No. 18) and Lowe(No. 19).
He hasn’t given an exact commitment date, as of yet, but he has given a proposed commitment for May. I don’t expect a decision until he takes the respective visits to Michigan and Notre Dame on Apr. 14th and 18th. But with an impressive list of schools that also includes Auburn, Ohio State, USC, Florida, Georgia, etc., he may even take other visits before a decision is made.

Although Deal has not named a leader, Clemson is believed to be the leader because of location-an hour and a half from Emerald-and it’s his dream school. As of now, but of course, things can change, he is expected to name that leader when he commits in May.
