According to reports, a couple of schools have expressed interest in hiring Clemson football defensive coordinator Brent Venables as their next head coach.

According to reports by people that aren’t necessarily journalists, Clemson football defensive coordinator Brent Venables has garnered interest from a couple of SEC schools for the vacant head coaching position.

I like to use the phrase “reports” loosely as the truth is not necessarily found in these articles.

FootballScoop originally “reported” that Mississippi State wanted Brent Venables to come in for an interview on Monday afternoon.

That piece of news was later picked up and reported on by the likes of SECCountry and several other organizations.

In addition to Mississippi State, it has also been a theme to see Brent Venables’s name associated with the open Arkansas job.

Now, I’m not saying there’s not a sprinkle of truth in some of these reports.

I do believe these schools have Brent Venables on their list of coaches. There may even be some interest from Venables himself.

But I guarantee you that he won’t be interviewing this week.

I can also guarantee you that it will take a lot for Venables to leave Clemson football. He loves it in Tiger Town and his son is committed to the Tigers, as well. If you don’t think that plays a factor, I believe you’re sadly mistaken.

Does that mean Venables won’t take a head coaching position?

Absolutely not. He will do what is in his best interest, but I think there’s a reason that these rumors about Brent Venables always get shot down rather quickly. To explain a little more in-depth, I want to give you a little insight to how these coaching rumors work in the sports world.

Agents of the coaches leak information to the media and to schools about their interest. Think about Chad Morris.

Was it a coincidence that every single open head coaching position that came open had his name somehow tied to it? No. He was constantly having his agent look for opportunities.

That hasn’t really been the case with Brent Venables, though.

Why?

I believe he’s happy right where he’s at. That doesn’t necessarily mean that he won’t ever take a position as a head coach, but I think there are other factors that are in play for Coach V.

No one knows what the future will hold for the Clemson football defensive coordinator, but I would encourage Tiger fans to look at other reports than the TMZs of sports media, like FootballScoop, and not believe everything they read on the internet.
