Clemson Football: 5 best players through the first seven games
1. Dorian O’Daniel, LB
Capping off the list is redshirt senior linebacker, Dorian O’Daniel. The Maryland native is the most dangerous linebacker in the country.
Coming into the season Clemson’s coaches were complementary of O’Daniel’s improved work ethic and attention to detail. Clearly the extra work over the offseason has payed off for O’Daniel. Through this point in the year, he has 51 total tackles, a team-leading 38 solo tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions and two touchdowns.
Not only is O’Daniel ultra productive, but, he effects the Tigers’ entire game plan. Defensive coordinator, Brent Venables doesn’t have to shift to a nickel package and sacrifice a linebacker in run support, because O’Daniel is athletic enough to cover receivers in the slot. He provides this Clemson defense with tremendous versatility.
Next: Kelly Bryant injury, what if he can't go?
With this being his last year in Death Valley, O’Daniel has as much motivation as anybody to finish the season strong. He has an opportunity to win three-straight ACC Championships and play in his third-straight College Football Playoff.
