The Clemson football program took down the visiting Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday. Here’s the final score, stats and analysis from Clemson’s victory.

Clemson battled a scrappy Wake Forest team to secure a 28-14 win in Death Valley on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, starting quarterback, Kelly Bryant went down with an ankle injury half way through the third quarter.

The Tigers remain a perfect 6-0 going into week seven.

Here’s the final stats from Clemson’s victory over the Deacs.

Passing: Kelly Bryant – 21/29 for 200 yards and one touchdowns.

Rushing: Travis Etienne – 15 carries for 67 yards and one touchdown.

Receiving: Hunter Renfrow 6 catches for 61 yards.

Analysis:

Clemson is coming off of a thrilling victory over the 12th ranked Virginia Tech Hokies. As such, they lacked focus coming into a noon start versus Wake Forest.

I have to give credit where credit is due. The Demon Deacons were able to slow the Tigers’ strong running game. They also did a good job of taking care of the football. Wake Forest wasn’t going to give anything to Clemson, they were forced to earn this win.

I thought Clemson’s offensive line looked inconsistent. They were playing well to start off the game, marching right down and scoring on the opening drive. From there, they fell apart. The Tigers’ lackluster play upfront led to issues in the running game and beyond.

Brent Venables drew up a masterful game-plan once again. Wake Forest couldn’t move the football until back up quarterback, Kendall Hinton entered the game. Hinton led the Deacs to two straight scoring drives late in the fourth quarter. While it didn’t change the outcome of the game, it showed the fighting spirit within this Wake Forest program.

Dave Clawson has turned the Demon Deacons into a respectable program within the ACC. After taking Florida State to the brink last week and making things tough for Clemson this week, Wake Forest is no longer a cupcake opponent.
