College Football 2017 Picks Against The Spread: Week 5

BATON ROUGE, LA - SEPTEMBER 23: Jonathan Thomas
BATON ROUGE, LA - SEPTEMBER 23: Jonathan Thomas

As we move deeper into the 2017 College Football season the games become more competitive. Week five provides us with our first slate of tough in-conference matchups. Here’s my picks against the spread this week.

Last week, Oklahoma State fell from the ranks of the undefeated, while TCU grabbed the attention of the masses. The Big-12 is in much better shape entering week five of this season, than it was a year ago. Oklahoma, TCU and Oklahoma State are all very much alive in the College Football Playoff race.

The SEC is in shambles at the moment. Florida is struggling amidst a credit card fraud scandal, while Tennessee, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Missouri are having hot-seat discussions. The only two programs that appear stable are Alabama and Georgia. With LSU getting blown out by Mississippi State, who then got blown out by Georgia, we don’t really know how good either team is.

Here are the College Football picks against the spread for week five. All of the current odds are provided by SportsBookReview.com.

#7 Georgia vs. Tennessee:

Current spread: -7 Georgia

More from Rubbing the Rock

Spread prediction: Georgia comes into this matchup riding high at 4-0. The Bulldogs were also embarrassed in a last-second loss to Tennessee a season ago, thanks to a Josh Dobbs Hail Mary. Tennessee is trending in the opposite direction. Inconsistency has plagued the Vols once again. Georgia wins this one handily on the road.

Iowa vs. Michigan State:

Current Spread: +3 Iowa

Spread prediction: I am picking Iowa State to win this one outright. While Michigan State has an intimidating home environment, they have serious turnover issues. This Hawkeyes defense won’t make it any easier to hold on to the football. Nate Stanley and Akrum Wadley should be able to put up enough points to steal a win in East Lansing.

Syracuse vs. NC State:

Current Spread: +13 Syracuse

Spread prediction: NC State is coming off of a upset win on the road against Florida State. That being said, Syracuse is much improved from a season ago. Dino Babers’ squad gave LSU all they could handily last week. The Cuse will come within 13 at the least.

Next: 3 Players to watch vs. Virginia Tech

Again my picks against the spread for this week are as follows: -7 Georgia, +3 Iowa and +13 Syracuse. What are your picks against the spread going into this weekend?
