Clemson Football: Texas A&M writer thinks Swinney could still be an Aggie
Despite Dabo Swinney just signing a massive contract extension with Clemson football, Writer Matt Mosely still thinks he could be an Aggie.
Despite Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney just signing a massive contract extension, Sports Day DFW contributor Matt Mosely still believes Swinney could be an Aggie.
Dabo Swinney just signed an eight-year, 54 million dollar contract with Clemson football that runs through the year 2024.
This comes after speculation that Swinney would leave Tiger Town to Texas A&M should the Aggies fire Kevin Sumlin at the end of the season.
While most have put those rumors to bed, many faithful in College Station still want to hold out hope of getting the energetic program builder.
Here’s what Mosley had to say about how Texas A&M still has a shot at Swinney:
According to Mosely, the Aggies will just pay the buyout and get Dabo as if the contract never happened.
"I think the Aggies wouldn’t blink at a big buyout. Obviously they hope that Sumlin gets it done this season and they don’t have to pursue a new head coach. But if Sumlin has another poor finish, they would swing for the fences, and that would include Dabo. Maybe it’s unrealistic…but the Aggies could easily surpass that contract Dabo just signed with Clemson."
Now, to be fair, he did say that he doesn’t believe it will happen, but it’s the whole attitude of Texas A&M thinking they are the best program in America. Mosley is the one that started all of this before the contract extension talking about Swinney going to Texas A&M and still hasn’t let it go.

I guess they just believe that Texas A&M’s program is just so much higher up the food chain than Clemson’s that it can go out and get whoever it wants.
Now, I understand that College Station is one of the best jobs in the country. There are tons of fans and the money is endless, but let’s also not pretend that a 6 million buyout isn’t something you just do on a whim.
The Aggies also have not been relevant in the national picture, at least contending for a national championship, since Johnny Manziel was the quarterback. The Aggies haven’t finished in the AP top-10 since 2012 and I just believe this would mean Swinney taking a step back.
Does Texas A&M have more money to give than Clemson football? Maybe.
But you’d be talking about going through the process of hiring coaches, beginning to recruit and you’d be competing with the likes of Alabama, LSU, and Auburn every single season.
I just don’t think the Texas A&M job is that appealing.
Maybe I’m the only one that doesn’t get it, but Dabo Swinney isn’t leaving Clemson football for Texas A&M even if they did pay the buyout and even if they did offer him more many than what he’s making in Tiger Town. Sorry Aggie fans, that’s just the truth.

I do give Mosley credit for saying he doesn’t believe that Swinney would accept the job, but I think it’s time we put all these rumors to bed. I don’t think there needs to be any more speculation because Swinney has given his answer.
He is staying in Clemson.
