Clemson football freshman running back Travis Etienne is making a splash in fall camp and that very well could earn him some playing time this season.

Clemson football freshman running back Travis Etienne is making a splash in fall camp and is turning the heads of the coaching staff in doing so.

Etienne, who committed to the Tigers back in January, is the first Tiger freshman from the state of Louisiana since 2003.

Co-Offensive Coordinator Tony Elliott said, after practice, that Etienne is getting snaps with the second-team offense and he has been impressed with the freshman thus far.

Of course, he also said that the freshman has a long way to go and is still learning the playbook and is working on his dependability.

"“We like to carry five backs on every trip, and right now he’s number four because he’s the fourth scholarship guy,” Tony Elliott said via Tigernet.com. “But he’s competing. And if you go just off production, he’s been the most productive in terms of making plays in the run game."

Will Travis Etienne get a lot of snaps at running back for Clemson football in 2017? Probably not.

But it seems that he is going to be a solid running back for the future and he has guaranteed himself a spot on the special teams this season. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see him carry the ball a few times this season, especially against some of the “easier” opponents like Kent State, The Citadel, Syracuse, and Boston College.

Etienne still has a long way to go before he is ready to be an every down back, but he is wearing that No. 9 and looks a lot like Wayne Gallman. He runs hard and is extremely explosive. As a matter of fact, at the scrimmage on Saturday, Etienne had the best running play of the scrimmage.

You just can’t teach what this kid has and that’s very encouraging going forward for the Tigers and I look forward to seeing how he improves and what he is being able to do.
