Jordyn Adams won’t be a Clemson Tiger
Clemson football’s chances of landing super athletic wide receiver Jordyn Adams seems to be slim.
Adams once starred at Blythewood High(SC) but followed his dad to the state of North Carolina and is now at Green Hope High(NC). That change of location swung the recruiting pendulum in the North Carolina Tarheels favor.
Having Adams in the state gave UNC head coach Larry Fedora an advantage over Clemson and Dabo Swinney but the addition of Deke Adams, the father of Jordyn, to his coaching staff made the Tarheels the favorite to land his signature on signing day.
Deke, a defensive line coach, left East Carolina back in January to accept the job at UNC. Deke has a history of working for Fedora at Southern Miss(2009-11)and once before at UNC(2012). Before this past season at ECU, he worked for the rivals in Columbia during the 2013-15 seasons.
Besides being one of the best football players in the nation, Jordyn is a big time baseball prospect and became a YouTube sensation with a nasty facial dunk back in South Carolina.
The 6-foot-2 Adams is also a top 200 baseball prospect, but football will be his main sport in college, and he will have the opportunity to play baseball too at Clemson or UNC.
In May, Jordyn was impressive at the Nike Opening regional 7-on-7 tournament in Charlotte and is currently competing in the annual Nike Opening finals in Oregon. He is one of the hottest recruits in the country and has continued to dazzle onlookers after Day one of the tournament.
At the Opening, Jordyn will announce on Monday for Clemson or UNC.
My take. He picks UNC.
Reason. Jordyn left South Carolina in December to be closer to Deke who was still coaching at ECU. Leaving before his dad got the UNC coaching job in mid January is a huge factor in this recruiting battle. Family ties will seal the deal for Fedora and the Tarheels.
This kid definitely wants to be close to his dad and that alone will keep him out of Tigertown.
