Clemson Football Recruiting: Cam’Ron Kelly offer breakdown
The Clemson Tigers coaching staff has been busy on the recruiting trail since the start of the summer camp circuit. Today I will be breaking down the offer of 2019 corner back, Cam’Ron Kelly.

Cam’Ron Kelly is from the fertile recruiting ground that is Virginia. Playing for perennial powerhouse, Oscar Smith, Kelly has faced the best competition the state of Virginia has to offer and done quite well. Clemson will have to ward off dozens of programs across the country for this DMV native.
Strengths:
Kelly posses great length for a corner back, he is built similarly to recent 2017 signee AJ Terrell. Both are slender, long-limbed athletes. After watching his film, I came away impressed with Kelly’s ball skills as well.
- Soft hands
- Length
- Instincts in coverage
Weaknesses:
Though Kelly’s height is certainly a positive for a cornerback, he appears to be tight-hipped at times. He must work on becoming more fluid in and out of his breaks.
- Coming out of breaks/back pedals
Outlook:
Though Clemson is coming off of a National Championship, Jimbo Fisher and the Florida State Seminoles have offered Kelly as well. The Seminoles have recruited especially well in Virginia under Jimbo Fisher. Current Noles, Levonta Talyor and Josh Sweat are Virginia natives.
Clemson’s biggest advantage is Brent Venables. Kelly is an aggressive, physical defensive back, which is vital to play in Venables defense. The wily defensive coordinator runs an attacking defensive, heavily predicated on tight man-to-man coverage. Kelly’s style of play fits perfectly with the Tigers.
