Clemson’s wheels are already churning in the 2019 recruiting class. The Tigers played host to Nolan Smith, the No. 5 overall prospect in the nation and current Georgia Bulldogs commit. Brent Venables will surely try and pry the talented edge defender from Kirby Smart throughout the rest of his recruitment.

Smith was recently on hand for Clemson’s annual Dabo Swinney football camp. Not only is the camp a good opportunity for prospects to see the campus, it also allows them to get hands on coaching from the Tigers staff.

Clemson extended an offer to Smith on May 17th of this year. The Tigers coaching staff will have help in Smith’s recruitment being as though he is teammates with a pair of 2018 Clemson commit’s, Mike Jones Jr. and Xavier Thomas. In a recent spring game, Smith and Thomas combined for a touchdown. Thomas blocked a field goal attempt and Smith returned it for the long score.

IMG has arguably the most dominant front seven in the country coming into the 2017 season, with Smith and Thomas coming off of the edge and Taron Vincent manning the middle of the defense.

Smith is originally from the state of Georgia, one of Clemson’s richest pipelines. As such the Tigers figure to be a major player in his recruitment. Dabo Swinney and company currently hold a commitment from Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 prospect in the state of Georgia for the 2018 recruiting cycle.

With Clemson’s rich history along the defensive line and large amount of Peach state native’s in the program, the Tigers have a good a shot as any to flip the current Georgia commit.
