Deshaun Watson was impressive in his 2017 NFL combine workout, which apparently raised his draft stock. While Watson’s stock deserved to be raise, I do not believe his stock should have been as low as it was in the first place.

I feel that Watson is without a doubt the best quarterback prospect in this draft class, as such he should be the No. 1 overall pick. With that said, I wanted to compare Watson to last years No. 1 quarterback prospect and No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff.

More from Rubbing the Rock

NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah had Watson rated as the 32nd best prospect in the draft, stating “His accuracy has been very inconsistent, especially on the deep ball.” I found this particularly interesting because Watson completed 67.4 percent of his passes over his three year career at Clemson, while Jared Goff completed just 62.3 percent of his passes during his three year career at Cal. Despite that clear statistical divide, Jeremiah never called into question Goff’s accuracy coming out of Cal.

One of the other areas of concern for Deshaun Watson is the amount of interceptions he has thrown (32) over his three seasons at Clemson. While 32 is a high amount of INT’s, Jared Goff threw 30 during his career at Cal, however, that was not a worry during last years draft process.

The differences between Watson and Goff do not stop there.

Winning

Deshaun Watson is a winner through and through. Jared Goff was 0-13 vs ranked opponents during his three seasons at Cal. Watson on the other, was 11-5 vs ranked opponents during his three years at Clemson.

I cannot figure out why Deshaun Watson is not deserving of a top ten pick, but, Jared Goff was. Throw all of the statistics out of the window and put the two players through the eye test. Watson is a more fluid athlete and make’s timely throws in crucial situations. Goff is impressive against average competition, yet falters against top competition.
