Obviously, Clemson is the heavy favorite coming into Saturday’s game, but let’s take a look back at the history of this series and give you some results and background from the 15 games that been played between the Clemson Tigers and the Wofford Terriers.
Overall Series Record: Clemson 11-3
Last Meeting: September 10, 2011- Clemson 35, Wofford 27
The last meeting between these two schools took place four years ago and it was a painful game to watch. I remember being in Death Valley and everyone booing as the Tigers walked off the field tied with Wofford at halftime. Clemson did end up pulling the game out, but it wasn’t until a Rennie Moore stop on fourth down in the fourth quarter that the game was over.
First Meeting: November 21, 1896- Clemson 16, Wofford 0.
The first ever meeting between the two school came in late-November where the Clemson Tigers shutout the Wofford Terriers.

An Interesting Note: Clemson opened up with Wofford on September 5, 1981 and beat the Terriers 45-10. This was the year that Clemson ended up going and winning a national championship. Now, the Clemson Tigers open up with the Wofford Terriers once again on September 5. Is that a coincidence or is something amazing about to happen? Only time will tell, but if the Tigers walk out with a 45-10 win on Saturday, I’m calling it.
Another interesting tidbit is that Clemson was actually trailing Wofford for a good portion of the first quarter and was tied with the Terriers 3-3 going into the second. Clemson then went on to score 28 unanswered points, solidifying the opening day victory.
