The NFL conference champions wrapped up this weekend, and the teams playing in the Super Bowl are set. Of the four teams in the AFC and NFC championships, three have a combined five former Tigers on the 53-man roster, with four recording stats. And of those who recorded stats, Will Shipley had the best game.
The former Clemson running back sits behind one of the best in the League, Sequon Barkley, but somehow made his presence known. With 11 fewer carries (4) than Barkley, Shipley ran for 77 yards and a touchdown — his first of the year — averaging 19.3 yards a carry. Most came on a 57-yard run when Philadelphia held a 48-23 advantage, and two plays later, Shipley scored the Eagles' final touchdown of the night.
He wasn't the only former Tiger who played on Sunday. However, everyone else had more modest games. Wideout legend DeAndre Hopkins helped the Chiefs to their fifth AFC championship in six seasons, paving the way to his first Super Bowl appearance. Hopkins only had one reception for 11 yards on two targets.
Another Eagle, Jeremiah Trotter, finished with two tackles, including one sole. Switching over to Washington Commanders, former Clemson defensive end Clelin Ferrel made one tackle and got a hit on Philly's quarterback Jalen Hurts. The only former Tiger that didn't record a stat this weekend was WR Justyn Ross, who plays for Kansas City.
However, Ross, Hopkins, Shipley, and Trotter will continue their seasons as they play for the Lombardi Trophy in New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 9.
