While the Clemson Tigers are putting the finishing touches on their 2027 recruiting class, there is so much work to be done when it comes to bringing their 2028 class together. Dabo Swinney's program is on its annual bye during Week 6. This comes after a lackluster effort at home versus the juggernaut Miami Hurricanes in a blowout loss. After that, Clemson will host FCS Charleston Southern in Week 7.

With seven games left to be played -- and only four more to be held in Death Valley -- the Tigers need to do their part on the recruiting trail to not only finalize its 2027 class, but set a solid foundation for the 2028 group as well. It will not be easy, but it is just par for the course in the modern age of college football. Every commitment, every de-commitment, and every signing elsewhere will be scrutinized.

Let us take a look at who Clemson has committed for 2027 and 2028, as well as who it is going after.

Clemson Tigers 2027 football commits

According to 247Sports, Clemson has 24 hard commits as a part of its 2027 recruiting class so far.

  1. WR Jamarin Simmons
  2. DL Seth Tillman
  3. IOL Luke Starcevic
  4. RB Gary Walker
  5. EDGE Santana Harvey
  6. LB Bryce Kish
  7. CB Jayden Aparicio-Bailey
  8. EDGE Desmond Malpress
  9. OT JJ Brown
  10. IOL Carter Jones
  11. WR Trey Wimbley
  12. QB Kharim Hughley
  13. IOL Elijah Morrison
  14. S Jarrell Chandler
  15. CB Bryant Robinson
  16. DL Jaden Wuerth
  17. S Harrison Luke
  18. CB Christian Chancellor Jr.
  19. TE Carter Blackwell
  20. LB Max Brown
  21. WR Julian Cromartie
  22. EDGE JiQuan Rogers
  23. TE Nicholas Pollack
  24. K Michael Brandin Gallaway

The No. 13 class in the country has one five-star committed in wide receiver Jamarin Simmons, 10 four-stars, and a slew of three stars. This class includes Matt Luke's son Harrison and Georgia legend David Pollack's son Nicholas, both of whom are high school teammates at North Oconee in Bogart, Ga. just outside of Athens. Clemson may add to this class in the coming weeks, but it is mostly intact.

With linebacker RJ Hudson de-committing on Friday, this does throw a wrench into things as well.

Clemson Tigers 2027 football targets

247Sports only has one player listed as "High Choice" and 30 others deemed to be "Interested". Clemson commit Jarrell Chandler is the "High Choice" prospect, while the other 23 commits the Tigers have fall into the "Interested" bucket. That leaves us with six players committed elsewhere who are still on Clemson's radar to some degree. Let us take a look at who else Clemson is still vying for.

  1. 5-star EDGE DJ Jacobs (Ohio State)
  2. 4-star LB Cooper Witten (Oklahoma)
  3. 4-star QB Peyton Houston (LSU)
  4. 4-star LB Quinton Cypher (Ohio State)
  5. 4-star QB Trent Seaborn (Alabama)
  6. 3-star S Garyon Hobbs (Indiana)

Frankly, the likelihood of Clemson flipping any of these top prospects almost feels like a lost cause.

Clemson Tigers 2028 football commits

At this time, the only player committed to the 2028 cause for Clemson is four-star quarterback Trace Hawkins. The 6-foot, 180 pounder from Calhoun, Ga. committed to the Tigers back on July 30. Given that Calhoun is not far from where Trevor Lawrence grew up over in Cartersville, this is part of North Georgia where Clemson regularly recruits players from. Getting a quarterback from there is so huge!

Clemson Tigers 2028 football targets

At this stage of the game, Clemson has Hawkins listed as "High Choice" and 23 other players deemed to be "Interested." With Hawkins committed, it might be more important to see what 2028 prospects have Clemson listed as anything other than "Cool". Not including 16 other recruits who were given the "Scout Look" label, Clemson has three players who seem "Interested" who are "Warm" on the Tigers.

  1. 4-star OT Jackson Snelling
  2. 3-star CB Kahmaree Crumity
  3. 3-star DL Cavin Bates

Snelling is the No. 18 player from Florida, the No. 21 offensive tackle in the country, and the No. 161 prospect for 2028. Crumity stands as the No. 45 cornerback in the nation and the No. 55 player out of Florida. As for Bates, he is the No. 73 defensive lineman in the 2028 class and the No. 25 overall prospect from Alabama. Landing even one of them in the coming weeks or months would be perfect.

What is interesting is Clemson does not appear to be on any five-star player's radar for 2028 just yet.
