Dabo Swinney gives an update on Tyler Brown's redshirt status
Tyler Brown has struggled to see the field after injuring his ankle against Appalachian State. The true sophomore has played only three games this season: Georgia, App State, and Stanford. With so many games, many in the media wondered if Brown would sit this season, utilize his redshirt option, and retain three years of eligibility.
Indeed, head coach Dabo Swinney answered that question on Tuesday during his weekly press conference. "He won't be back until after the South Carolina game," said Swinney. "He will be ready for [the] postseason."
To retain his redshirt, Brown would need to play in four or fewer games this season. And thanks to the new NCAA rule exempting postseason games from counting against the four-game allotment, the injury-plagued receiver will keep his extra year of eligibility. Technically, he could play in one of the final two games of the season, too, and still keep his redshirt.
Brown stepped up in 2023 after injuries left the cupboard bare in the WR room. He recorded 519 yards and four touchdowns, including a 153-yard performance against Syracuse. At season's end, he will have three years left with the Tigers.
