The transfer portal window opened on Monday and some big names entered, including three surprise Clemson basketball players who were each expected to have an impactful role next year.
The headliner of the group was Chauncey Wiggins, a junior who averaged nearly 25 minutes per game, who decided to enter the portal after a career year with the Tigers. He is from Georgia, so that's something to keep an eye on when he decides on a new home.
Losing Wiggins hurts, but what might hurt Clemson fans even more was the loss of Del Jones.
That's right, former top-150 recruit Del Jones from the 2024 class played just 11.8 minutes per game, but he showed some promise and many believed he was going to become a star at Clemson. He averaged 3.8 points on 40 percent shooting to go along with 1.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists. With Chase Hunter and Jaeden Zackery (potentially) leaving, it looked like Jones' role would increase in 2025-26, but that now appears to not be the case.
But Jones and Wiggins weren't the only departures on Monday afternoon.
Asa Thomas, a former three-star small forward from Lake Forest, Ill., played in just 12 games this season and averaged 1.2 points on 40 percent shooting. He, too, was expected to see his role increase dastically next season but that is no longer the case.
Clemson has some big shoes to fill next season with Ian Schieffelin, Viktor Lakhin, Zackery, Hunter, Wiggins, Thomas, and Jones all departing. That is essentially an entirely new roster needed for the 2025-26 season.
Brownell has to get to work in the transfer portal immediately.
