One Quick Thing: I'm going to miss Beaux Collins

Beaux Collins never broke into 'great' territory like a lot of Clemson Football fans wanted, but he was very good, and I am going to miss him.

I am going to admit something rather silly. I watch a lot of Clemson videos.

I probably watched the video of Deshaun Watson throwing the championship-winning touchdown pass to Hunter Renfrow seventeen times a day for the first two months after Clemson won the national championship in 2016.

I admit it is an addiction. I am okay with it.

I also admit that the videos created in the last few years haven’t inspired me to watch them nearly as often as I used to. I did start watching them on the 4th of July just for fun.

I started the 2023 playlist with Clemson’s first victory. It was against Charleston Southern. I recently visited the Charleston Southern campus for the first time this summer, but that isn’t the point.

Forward to 7:03 in this video. Beaux Collins catches a pass from Cade Klubnik for a 69-yard touchdown. He starts celebrating early but just manages to reach the endzone before the Buccaneers catch him.

When that happened, it drove me nuts. How many times have we seen players celebrate too early? Have you not seen Ray Ray McCloud? Seriously?

Time has mellowed my reaction. Honestly, I will miss Beaux.

I won’t miss him because he is a great player. He isn’t. That isn’t a shot. We should only extend the adjective ‘great’ to those who earn it.

Collins was very good, however, and there are a few Clemson fans who don’t want to give him even that credit. He was a very good wide receiver in an era when there weren’t any great Tiger wide receivers.

As such, some fans were too hard on Beaux. That might have had a hand in his motivation to transfer.

I wish Beaux all the best with the Irish. I will miss him because he was good. Sometimes I think our hunger for great impacts our appreciation for good. That isn't a backhanded compliment - I genuinely think Beaux wasn't appreciated for what he was at Clemson.

Good luck Beaux. I wish you were more appreciated by Clemson fans.
