If I could come up with the perfect CFP committee, then I could also come up with a nightmare committee. Here are thirteen people we should hope never make any important decisions for the playoffs.

Tommy Elrod

Tommy Elrod played football at Wake Forest and then coached at the school starting in 2003. When Jim Grobe resigned at the end of the 2013 season, new head coach Dave Clawson dismissed most of Grobe’s assistants, including Elrod.

There didn’t seem to be any animosity publicly between Elrod and Wake Forest. Elrod was hired to be one of the Demon Deacons’ radio announcers. As such, he was one of the people trusted to be at practice.

Suddenly in 2016, Elrod was dismissed. Wake released this statement.

" "Based on emails, text messages, and phone records, Tommy Elrod, a radio announcer for Wake Forest football games, provided or attempted to provide confidential and proprietary game preparations on multiple occasions, starting in 2014”"

Wake Forest press release

It turns out Elrod had been getting revenge on Clawson by leaking information about plays to opponents. He was busted when play diagrams were found in Louisville’s stadium showing plays that Wake had run in practice but had never run in games.

It was later found that Elrod had also leaked information to Virginia Tech and Army. The scandal led to big changes in how much security they put around their practice sessions.

Why Elrod for the worst committee ever? He’s just a scumbag.
