The duds were hard to find in Clemson's game against App State, but the studs were numerous
Studs
Cade Klubnik
After a full week of criticism, Cade Klubnik regained his confidence. He looked sharp, going 24/26 for 378 yards and five touchdowns, leading the Tigers to a 66-20 victory over Appalachian State. On the third play of the night, Klubnik hit Bryant Wesco for a 76-yard touchdown and never looked back.
To accompany his five passing touchdowns, the junior ran for another two, bringing the total touchdowns he was responsible for to seven in the first half. It was one of if not the best half of football in Clemson's history. That’s one way to forget about a previous week’s performance.
Jake Briningstool
His total yards came in second to Bryant Wesco Jr.’s 130, but Jake Briningstool is quickly becoming Cade Klubnik’s favorite target. The 6-foot-6-inch senior tight end caught three more passes than anyone on the team. He went for 100 yards on seven receptions and led the pass catchers with two touchdowns.
It’s great watching him, and Klubnik build that chemistry. With so much youth in Clemson’s receiving corps, having a seasoned vet like Briningstool will be key to the passing game’s success.
Sammy Brown
We see you, freshman! Sammy Brown is one of those guys you know who has the potential to be a generational talent. He received tons of praise this summer, but last night was the first time Tiger fans saw him in action.
Brown led the team in tackles, nearly recording double-digit stops. On a night where 22 players recorded a tackle, the former five-star had nine total tackles and seven solo. He was all over the field and took advantage of the opportunity.
