RTR Staff Predictions-Appalachian State is Clemson's chance to refocus
The best thing about playing Georgia last week is that it's over. Now that Clemson is through the most difficult part of the 2024 schedule, the team can breathe a sigh of relief and focus on the next 11 games.
Next up is Appalachian State. The feisty Group of Five school is known for its upsets. Clemson has a chance to gain its confidence back, or will it instead be the next program on App State's victim list? Here are the RTR staff predictions:
Staff Predictions: Appalachian State
Austin
There's no question that the Tigers outmatch Appalachian State, but the Mountaineers are known for their ability to knockoff much better opponents than themselves. From their most famous example, when they became the first FCS team to beat a Top 10 team against Michigan, to their latest, defeating the Aggies in the Home of the 12th Man, the name Appalachian State has earned respect.
However, it's time for Clemson to rebound after its loss to Georgia. The Tigers have had a week to lick their wounds. Now is the time to refocus and dominate a weaker opponent to get mentally ready for NC State next week. Expect the defense to assert its will in this game.

We will learn a ton about Clemson this week. Do the Tigers show some pride and come out playing angry against Appalachian State after being humbled by No. 1 Georgia last week? Or, will this turn into a trap game with a showdown with top-25 NC State looming in the Tigers’ next game (though after an open week)?
After hearing nothing but negativity from the outside for a week straight, this game will be as much about Dabo Swinney’s ability to get his team in the right head space as anything. If he and his coaching staff can do that, Clemson should take care of business. Look for Cade Klubnik to rebound and find some rhythm as a passer to lead the way to a solid victory.
