At the Clemson football preseason media outing, offensive coordinator Chad Morris dropped an absolute bombshell regarding former backup quarterback and redshirt freshman Chris Denson.
When asked if a decision had been made on Denson and where he is going to end up, Morris made it clear that keeping this young man's raw athleticism off the field is simply not an option.
"You know, Chris obviously coming out of spring, I know Coach talked about that, and Chris has been a guy that's that's still working some quarterback," Morris said. "He's just a hybrid guy moving around, and I think Chris is a guy that's got. You know, we know he's he's electric with the ball in his hands, and so part of try to find a way to get the ball in his hands."
Hearing Morris call Denson "electric" should send chills down the spine of every defensive coordinator in the ACC. We know Coach Swinney loves versatile players who embody the "All In" spirit, and Denson is proving to be exactly that.
No Position Title, Just All Over the Field
As fall camp approaches, fans have been wondering if Denson has a permanent home on the depth chart. When pressed on whether the redshirt freshman has a definitive position title at all, or where he stands, Morris revealed that the coaching staff is utilizing him all over the gridiron to maximize his lethal skill set.
"no, not yet? I mean, since we broke from spring and just kind of working these guys through summer and the conditioning and going through skills and drills," Morris explained. "I mean, he's bounced all these. Yeah, he yeah he's been all over the field. He's played some wide receiver. He's been some in the backfield. We've had him. He's just kind of been all over and still working. You know, in moving him around, trying to find a place to get him involved."
