Hunter leads Tigers into halftime with 15 points after being perfect from three
The first half of Clemson basketball has wrapped up, with the Tigers leading 48-25
The defense has been unrelenting through the first 20 minutes, forcing a seven-minute drought for the Bucs early in the game. Charleston Southern's two highest scorers — RJ Johnson and Taje' Kelly — could hardly get a shot off with three attempts and one point a piece.
The Tigers forced 12 turnovers, with Boston College transfer Jaeden Zackery leading with three of Clemson's seven steals. However, the player who stood out in the few minutes he played was freshman Del Jones. He was aggressive on both sides of the ball.
On the other hand, rebounds are a little concerning, although a little nitpicky. The Tigers have dominated in every other category except boards, even though they have more length and size than the Bucs. But Clemson's post presence is being felt, with three blocks already. Turning defense into offense was a key to jumping ahead. Clemson has 13 points off turnovers, including five fast break points.
As much as CSU has coughed up the ball, Clemson has been stingy with the rock. The Tigers gave up only three turnovers, resulting in zero points for the Bucs. Chase Hunter led the team in points (15_) with a couple of clutch three-pointers late in the half, including a buzzer-beater to finish the half.
