The transfer portal opened with a gut punch for Clemson baseball, and now another Tiger is on the move. Redshirt sophomore lefty and do-it-all utility man Talan Bell is the latest to hit the portal.
Bell’s decision caps off a wild, whirlwind opening day in the summer portal window. He joins pitchers Noah Samol and Peyton Miller, along with everyday Tigers Nate Savoie and Bryce Clavon, all heading out the door.
From Elite Prospect to Regional Struggle
When Bell arrived in Tigertown, the hype was real. He was a crown jewel in Clemson’s recruiting class, ranked No. 33 nationally and the No. 5 lefty arm by Perfect Game. Tiger fans had every reason to be excited.
But things never quite clicked for Bell in the Upstate. He battled through the usual freshman bumps and a tough comeback from injury, and just couldn’t find that breakout moment.
- 2025 turned into a year of rehab and patience for Bell. The coaches eased him back in, and he managed eight starts, finishing with a 5.56 ERA over 22.2 innings, 22 strikeouts, and 15 walks.
- Coming into 2026, Tiger fans hoped Bell would finally seize a spot in the weekend rotation. But the breakout never came. After five shaky starts, he was shifted to long relief out of the bullpen.
Two Years of Eligibility Remaining
Bell’s command wavered against ACC bats, but the flashes of raw talent were impossible to miss. In a handful of outfield appearances, he even crushed a towering home run in just ten trips to the plate.
With his 6-foot frame, blue-chip pedigree, and two years of eligibility left, Bell is sure to draw plenty of interest from programs looking to unlock his upside. He’s still got the tools to be special.
Meanwhile, Coach Bakich is already working his magic with the scholarship numbers. Losing five Tigers on day one is a jolt, but snagging Sun Belt All-Freshman Bennett Edwards proves Clemson is reloading fast and building a tournament-ready squad for 2027.
