Ben Boulware got his dream job.
Jon Blau of The Post and Courier reported Saturday that Dabo Swinney promoted Boulware to Clemson's linebackers coach.
Also part of the move, Thomas Allen was named assistant linebackers coach and defensive analyst. Thomas Allen is the son of new defensive coordinator Tom Allen.
Boulware was with the staff just one season as assistant linebackers coach before Swinney believed he had earned a promotion. Boulware has also been on the road recruiting for the Tigers this offseason.
He had earned respect from Swinney long before he joined the coaching staff, though.
Boulware had an outstanding career as a linebacker at Clemson under Swinney. He was a two-year starter and at the end of his senior season was named the winner of the Jack Lambert Award as the best linebacker in the nation.
He was also named Second-Team All-American by multiple outlets that season. He was also First-Team All-ACC in 2016 and second team in 2015.
As a senior, Boulware had a career-high 116 tackles, 11.5 TFL, four sacks and three forced fumbles. He was vital in the Tigers winning a national title as College Football Playoff National Championship Game Defensive MVP in 2017.
Boulware finished his Clemson career with 352 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, five interceptions, 41 quarterback pressures, 10 pass breakups, six forced fumbles and four recovered fumbles in 31 starts.
After Clemson, Boulware signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent. He was released at the beginning of the season, though, then signed to the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad. But that was also short-lived and the end to Boulware's NFL career.
Boulware initially joined Clemson's staff as a football defensive intern last year.
