Despite the season-opener against LSU being only a few weeks away, head man Dabo Swinney continues to do his best in leaving everyone guessing over the quarterback battle. Sometimes, he makes it seem like Christopher Vizzina is a lock to lead the offense out onto the field, but then Swinney also does his best to hype up freshman Tait Reynolds.
Clearly, Swinney, entering a pivotal season with the Tigers, is having a pretty hard time in making a call here as to who will be his Week 1 signal-caller. Just recently, though, Swinney also opened the door to waiting until Sept. 5 to reveal who's going to be running the show for him and offensive coordinator Chad Morris. Sorry, but this is the last thing he should have on his mind.

What benefit would Swinney get from this? Who knows, maybe he was being coy with reporters and not trying to give too many hints on which direction he was leaning in here, but still, even the thought of this doesn't seem right.
On one hand, Vizzina is the veteran QB who has waited his turn to take over the reins for the Tigers. In the previous two seasons, he has tossed for a combined 596 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. His experience on campus gives him the upper hand over Reynolds, who is still only 19 years old.
Despite his youth, Reynolds has impressed the coaching staff as a whole during fall camp, as his athleticism sure stands out. That's what is making things so interesting, but our gut tells us that Vizzina will be the one to get the starting nod against LSU and Kiffin.
How long of a leash he'll have as the starter will be interesting, however, as Reynolds will be ready to go if his number is called. There's still the chance that Swinney could stun us all and go with the true freshman as his QB1 to open the new season as well. That'd be a bit of a stunner, but the more time that passes without Swinney ending his QB battle, the more hope Reynolds might have.
Still, if Swinney is planning on moving forward with Vizzina, there's no need to drag things out - he should just let CV know he's the guy, while also making Reynolds know that he's got to keep prepping as if he could take the field at any moment. The hope is that a final decision will come soon, and Dabo should 100% avoid waiting until early September to reveal his plans.
