If you’re not already fired up for the Shawn Poppie era in Tiger Town, you’d better wake up—because something special is brewing in Littlejohn.
On Thursday, Coach Poppie dropped a bombshell, reeling in five elite transfers who instantly make Clemson one of the most exciting teams in the ACC. We’re talking about a nation-leading floor general, international playmakers, and rim protectors who bring the kind of talent and experience that Tiger fans have been craving.
The Ultimate Floor General
Leading the charge in the backcourt is Mackenzie Nelson, the Virginia Tech transfer who just might be the most efficient guard in the country. Her jaw-dropping 6.0 assist-to-turnover ratio was second-best in the nation last year, and now she’s set to run the show for the Tigers.
“Mackie is a true floor general,” Coach Poppie said. “Her ability to push the pace and be a playmaker for herself and others stands out. Mackie was one of the best guards in the country in the assist-to-turnover ratio last season. She’s a veteran of the ACC.”
Versatility on the Perimeter
Taliyah Henderson joins the backcourt as a playmaker with track-star speed and a knack for creating chaos for opposing defenses. Her ability to push the tempo and force mismatches is tailor-made for what Coach Poppie wants to do.
“Taliyah is a playmaking scorer who adds great size on the perimeter," Poppie noted. "She plays with a non-stop motor, which allows her to make so many winning plays."
The Tigers’ frontcourt just got a total facelift with three game-changing additions:
- Jenna Lawrence (Arkansas): A stretch-forward who can light it up from deep. Lawrence recently dropped 26 points in a game while shooting a perfect 5-of-5 from three-point range. "Jenna can really shoot the basketball, which sets up her ability to score off the dribble," said Poppie.
- Edie Clarke (Saint Mary’s): As previously reported, the 6-foot-4 Aussie is a defensive Swiss Army knife. She ranked third in the WCC in steals and seventh in blocks. Poppie believes she can become "an elite defender" in his system.
- Yakiya Milton: A rim protector with "unbelievable upside." Milton brings elite athleticism and a career-high four-block performance to the Valley. "Immediately, her ability to defend multiple positions, protect the rim and rebound the basketball will help our team," Poppie said.
Make no mistake: the Clemson Tigers aren’t just here to compete—they’re here to take over. With these five new faces, the foundation is set for something truly special in Littlejohn this season. Tiger Nation, get ready.v
