As Clemson has found itself, of late, under Dabo Swinney, South Carolina has begun to circle the drain even more so under Shane Beamer. Clemson improved to 3-1 (2-0) last Friday night with a great road win at Cal. Meanwhile, South Carolina has fallen to 2-2 on the season with back-to-back losses to Mississippi State and Alabama to commence SEC play. Beamer has passed the point of no return.
While Clemson has Miami coming up, the rest of the Tigers' schedule is somewhat manageable. In a best-case scenario, Clemson could finish the regular season at 10-2 (7-1) and be fighting for their right to party over in Charlotte. As for South Carolina, the Gamecocks have four more games against ranked opponents, as well as others versus Texas A&M and Clemson. Beamer might not survive this.
Although Clemson fans may enjoy seeing their arch rival falling apart at the seams like this, they'd better hope Beamer is still somewhat alive and kicking at South Carolina in time for the Palmetto Bowl. It would be a holiday-season treat to end it for him in Columbia. More importantly, the better a potential home win over South Carolina looks, the better it will be for Clemson's resume in the end.

Shane Beamer may be sitting on the hottest seat in all of college football
After the first month of the season, is there a Power Four head coach sitting on a hotter seat than Beamer? Mike Locksley is totally cooked at Maryland, but his job is not as high-profile as Beamer's. Furthermore, other coaches who were on the hot seat, such as Luke Fickell and Bill O'Brien, have honestly overachieved during September. Mike Norvell is probably out at Florida State. It is what it is.
Right now, the big question is how much longer of a runway Beamer will have at South Carolina. While he seems to have a solid working relationship with his boss, Jeremiah Donati, the South Carolina fan base has exhausted all of its patience with Beamer. He is a cocky position coach who is only as good as the coordinators he hires. All of his star players have regressed this season compared to last year.
With a bye coming up this week, Beamer better hope his team finds a way to win one of its next three games versus Kentucky, at Florida, and at home versus Tennessee. Those teams may all be ranked entering Week 5, but starting SEC play out 0-5 could have Beamer's head on the chopping block at Oklahoma on Halloween. If South Carolina is 2-6 entering November, it might be time to pull the plug.
Clemson may have no say in the matter. However, the longer Beamer stays employed, the better Clemson's chances will be to win the Palmetto Bowl and send him packing. While South Carolina hosts rival Georgia the week before Clemson does, it is hard to imagine Donati firing Beamer between rivalry games to close out the season. Again, the next month shall decide Beamer's Columbia fate.
Clemson should be the team to deliver the knockout punch to end Beamer's South Carolina tenure.
