If this year is going to be any different for Clemson, we didn't see any signs of improvement during the first half vs. LSU. Clemson may have gotten on the board first by way of a Nolan Hauser field goal following an Ashton Hampton interception. However, LSU quickly seized all momentum in the first two frames by way of running the football with conviction and playing opportunistic defense to lead, 31-3.
In short, everything Dabo Swinney promised would be better this season was anything but that for Clemson. The Chad Morris hire at offensive coordinator resulted in a disastrous -4 rushing yards on 12 attempts. Waiting until the 11th hour to name Christopher Vizzina the team's starting quarterback was exceptionally Cole Stoudt of Clemson. His greatest attribute of poise was nowhere to be found.
All the while, this reflects poorly on Swinney. LSU may be the more talented team, but this is a brand new operation for Lane Kiffin in Baton Rouge. There are so many moving pieces at LSU that it should take some time for this team to become a well-oiled machine. Well, against struggling Clemson, the Bayou Bengals are now only two quarters away from winning both legs in the Battle for Death Valley.
Halftime: LSU 31, Clemson 3.

Dabo Swinney is losing the plot in record time during Clemson at LSU
Clemson and college football fans abound cannot believe their eyes over how bad this team looks.
Play calling still ass man. This is a DABO problem

Clemson run and dominance is over.

Time to move on from Dabo.
His OC hirings just haven’t been good and he’s not adapting to the NIL world.
Clemson needs to just eat the loss and go get someone who’s innovative and get back to the top of CFB.
You can pinpoint this moment as the start of Clemson’s decline under Dabo Swinney. https://t.co/dPJWunkHSb

Dabo still hasn’t shown that he can be elite without a generational QB

There is still another half of this game to play, but this season already feels like a lost cause to some.
RIP Dabo Swinney

It was a good run
Unfortunately the only coach in CFB with morals is paying the price and will get fired soon pic.twitter.com/hFiRqCfX3K
I really can't believe that Dabo brought Chad Morris back.

Dabo mailed it in with 2 decisions.

Hiring Morris as OC
Not getting a transfer QB
Going to be a long season
Thanks for coming out Clemson, what a fall from grace Dabo Swinney and Co have undergone

Perhaps the worst part of this all is there is nothing entertaining about it, just complete sadness.
Brian Kelly beating Dabo in Clemson was actually entertaining and funny.

This?! pic.twitter.com/y2kEO94RZs
I am extremely grateful for what Dabo has brought to Clemson but he’s got to stop being stubborn and let the better QB play.

He played Stoudt, KellyB & now Vizzina before Deshaun, Trevor & Tait.
Enough is enough.
I respect the loyalty but come TF on.@ClemsonFB pic.twitter.com/LaYEtUPsje
Don't want to hear anyone defend Dabo anymore. This team has decayed into a mediocre ACC team. This is embarrasing
— Joe DeLeone (@joedeleone) September 6, 2026
Has there ever been a coach who was at the top then fallen as far as Dabo?
— RAINEY (@RaineyVoI) September 6, 2026
This has the makings of one of the worst falls from grace we have seen in college football history.
Dabo Swinney set Clemson up for failure this season with 2 bad decisions
By hiring one of his friends at offensive coordinator and refusing to upgrade at quarterback by way of the transfer portal, Clemson will now have to grind it out to even comfortably be a bowl team. LSU may be a playoff contender out of the SEC, but we have seen other teams look dominant in the first week of the season so far. Frankly, the first half says more about Clemson's issues than anything else.
With three intriguing ACC games coming up right after next week's home opener versus Georgia Southern, Clemson needs to hone in to prevent from starting the year out 1-4 (0-3). The home date with Miami in a month looks like a certain loss now. Playing on the road at Cal at the end of the month looks even more tricky. Even getting North Carolina in the ACC opener is no longer a guaranteed win.
At this time, the Clemson program we all knew and loved is no more. We can no longer make exceptions for people who are no longer exceptional. The world has changed so many times over since Clemson last played for a national title. There are still 11 games to be had after this one in regular-season play, but what have we seen out of two quarters to think 10 wins is even a possibility?
Thankfully, Swinney did come to his senses by putting Tait Reynolds out there right before halftime.
