He’s done it. Dabo Sweeney has finally broken the seal of the transfer portal. Clemson brought in wide receiver Tristan Smith, the first transfer skill player ever.

At Southeast Missouri State, Smith racked up 76 receptions for 934 yards and six touchdowns. At 6-foot-5-inches, 205 pounds, he has the size to be a Power-Four receiver. He had six games with over 80 yards and eight with at least seven receptions. To say he dominated his competition would be an understatement.

While an FCS receiver might not create a buzz in the fanbase, Smith shouldn't be counted out so quickly. We saw Tyler Browns rise last season. Although he was much higher ranked than Smith out of high school, no one expected him to blow up once Antonio Williams' season ended.

However, a much closer example would be the SEC's leading receiver this year. The supposed creme de la creme conference of college football finished with Arkansas's former FCS player, Andrew Armstrong, leading all WRs with 78 receptions for 1,140 yards. Smith could be a diamond in the rough like Armstrong, but only time will tell.

He picked the Tigers over offers from Eastern Michigan, LA Tech, Nevada, and New Mexico State, to name a few. Smith has one season left of eligibility.
