For the third time in the past few days, Clemson basketball picked up a commitment from the transfer portal.

It's been a busy week for Brad Brownell and the Tigers and he's already landed two of the three players he hosted last weekend from the portal. While he missed out on Cooper Schwieger from Valparaiso earlier this week to Wake Forest, he did land the other two visitors from the weekend in Nick Davidson from Nevada and then Carter Wellin from Utah Valley.

The latter made his commitment official on Friday afternoon.

The Utah Valley forward had a career year as a sophomore, averaging 13.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game. He also shot 48 percent from the floor and 35 percent from three. Not too shabby for a 6-foot-10 power forward who started his career at UC Irvine. As a freshman with Irvine, he averaged 7.0 points and 3.6 rebounds in just under 14 minutes per game, taking full advantage of his limited playing time.

Welling is likely going to play the four next to Davidson who might just be in line to play the five while fellow transfer commit RJ Godfrey (Georgia) plays the three. Dillon Hunter can play the one or the two, but a ball-handling guard or a shot creator needs to be the next priority for Brownell.

The starting five is rounding into shape and Brownell has done a great job so far this offseason.

There's still plenty of time to fill out the roster and with four returning players, three incoming freshmen and three transfers, there are likely two spots left. We'll see how Brownell plans to target those.
