Brad Brownell and Clemson basketball have been on the phone for the past week contacting transfer portal targets left and right and all the hard work seems to be paying off.
While losing guys like Del Jones, Asa Thomas, and Chauncey Wiggins to the transfer portal definitely stung, Brownell has been working the phones to make sure he makes up for those losses with adequate replacements.
So far, he's reached out to at least a dozen portal players and he has already gone further than that.
In fact, he's made inroads with three guys and they each visited campus this past weekend as Nick Davidson (Nevada) and Carter Welling (Utah Valley) were at Clemson on Saturday and a third star forward was in town on Sunday to cap off a huge weekend.
According to a report, Valparaiso forward Cooper Schwieger was on campus on Sunday. He's rated as the 10th-best portal power forward in the class after he averaged 15.8 points and 7.8 rebounds as a sophomore. He is similar to both Welling and Davidson and could provide that inside-out forward that is currently missing on the roster of four guys who return from the 2024-25 roster.
Schwieger did shoot just under 30 percent from deep this past season which is obviously not ideal, but he made over 35 percent of his threes as a freshman so he has that capability.
If Brownell can add 1-2 of these guys, that will give him a nice start to the offseason and a player to potentially build a roster around for next season.
The roster has a long way to go, but getting visits from these three is huge.
