The ACC celebrate the expanded conference with a new championship trophy
The Atlantic Coast Conference has changed much over the last few years. It's added SMU, Cal, and Stanford, making the ACC a coast-to-coast conference. It dropped divisions in 2023. And now, it's ushering in this modern era with a new conference trophy.
On Tuesday, the ACC unveiled the trophy honoring the conference's expansion. The trophy is 22-and-a-half pounds and 26 inches tall, with a "sleeker, more modern design while still paying respect to our previous trophy," according to ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips. The trophy will feature the ACC logo in the middle, with the conference's motto, "Accomplish Greatness" on the sides.
It's the first time the ACC has changed its trophy since its last expansion in 2014-15 when the conference added Louisville and signed a deal with Notre Dame to play five ACC games a season.
Fans have had mixed reactions on social media, with one Clemson fan stating, "Wow, this is hideous." A few others think it looks nice, while others only care about winning the conference championship.
