Clemson finds itself squarely in the hunt for Westlake (Ga.) defensive end Elijah Cox, who narrowed his list to six on Tuesday as the countdown to his commitment heats up.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound edge rusher is set to announce his college decision this Sunday at 3 p.m. EST. The Tigers are locked in a head-to-head battle with Mississippi, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Mississippi State and Purdue for the three-star standout’s commitment.

Cox is rated a three-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite, coming in at No. 520 nationally, No. 45 among edge rushers and No. 63 overall in the state of Georgia.

Cox first started turning heads in the summer of 2024 after making the rounds at camps like Baylor, Western Kentucky, Connecticut, Arkansas State, Jacksonville State and East Carolina.

But it was Cox’s junior season in 2025 that really put him on the map. In just eight games, he racked up 35 tackles, eight tackles for loss, four sacks and even took an interception to the house. That breakout year earned him a flurry of unofficial visits to places like Mississippi State, Auburn, South Carolina, Georgia and Georgia Tech.

Clemson entered the picture in mid-April, extending an offer to Cox after he made an unofficial visit to Tiger Town. That trip was all it took to earn the Tigers a spot on his summer official visit schedule, alongside Florida State and Mississippi.

The numbers game at defensive end changed quickly for Clemson after Cox’s visit. The Tigers locked up commitments from three other edge rushers—four-stars Santana Harvey and Desmond Malpress, plus three-star JiQuan Rogers—essentially filling up the position for this recruiting cycle.
