The College Football Playoff (CFP) landscape stayed relatively the same after week twelve. Aside from a slight rearrangement in the top four, only one new team entered the playoff picture.
BYU dropped its first game of the season to Kansas on Saturday. The Cougars' loss stemmed from a stagnant offense and a one-in-a-million special teams play that practically gave the Jayhawks a touchdown. Regardless, the Big 12 is still wide open, and BYU is the favorite to win it. So, BYU drops to No. 4 as the Big 12 champion.
2024 week twelve 12-team CFP prediction
Rank | Team | Why are they here | Previous rank |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Oregon | Big 10 Champion | 1 |
2 | Texas A&M | SEC Champion | 4 |
3 | SMU | ACC Champion | 3 |
4 | BYU | Big 12 Champion | 2 |
5 | Ohio State | At-large | 5 |
6 | Texas | At-large | 6 |
7 | Penn St | At-large | 7 |
8 | Georgia | At-large | 8 |
9 | Notre Dame | At-large | 9 |
10 | Ole Miss | At-large | 11 |
11 | Alabama | At-large | Not Ranked |
12 | Boise St | MW Champion | 12 |
Texas A&M takes over as the No. 2 team in the CFP prediction. The Aggies are still atop the SEC with only one conference loss. With Auburn and a Texas team that struggled with Arkansas this week left on the schedule, Texas A&M should make the SEC Championship game.
Alabama makes its way back into the CFP predictions and knocks Tennessee out in the process. However, it wasn't the Tide that earned their way back into the rankings, but Tennessee that failed to impress against Georgia. By the end of the season, the SEC could have five two-loss teams tied for second place. So even though the Vols lost to a top-10 team, the SEC is just too competitive to keep them in the CFP rankings.
