Clemson Football: Transfer portal projections and updates
By John Chancey
It has only been a week since undergraduates were allowed to enter the transfer portal, but there has already been quite a bit of activity. Clemson Football has been more active than they have been in past years.
Most of the information that has been available publicly has focused on the Tigers’ pursuit of offensive linemen. As noted this morning, Middle Tennessee transfer Keylan Rutledge will be rescheduling his visit to Clemson following a traffic accident on Saturday.
The Tigers offered offensive lineman Alan Herron from Division II Shorter University, but he announced a commitment to Penn State earlier today on Instagram.
Otherwise, the Tigers have been keeping their discussions with players private.
One offensive lineman, Chase Bisontis of Texas A&M, announced on X that Clemson was one of several schools who had contacted him, but did not indicate anything to make me believe the conversation evolved past hello.
We noted this morning that Beaux Collins has announced that he will be transferring to Notre Dame for his final season of eligibility.
Several people had predicted Collins would transfer after his junior season at Clemson. Much of the speculation about where he would end up focused on the West Coast. Collins is originally from California.
I am inferring from his destination and his announcement that exposure was the primary motivation for selecting Notre Dame.
Riley Leonard has been projected to Notre Dame. If this does happen, Collins could find the attention he is seeking with the Irish.
Other notable projections on 247Sports for quarterbacks include:
- Aidan Chiles to Michigan State, reuniting with his head coach at Oregon State, Jonathan Smith.
- Kyle McCord to Nebraska. There is also speculation that Julian Fleming could be headed to Lincoln as well.
- Will Rogers to Washington to succeed Michael Penix, Jr.
A name familiar to fans of Clemson Football recently entered the transfer portal
A very popular name to Tiger fans announced that he was making a change recently. Trevor Etienne, the brother of Clemson star Travis Etienne, has entered the portal to transfer out of Florida.
While observers felt that Clemson needed to look at taking transfers at multiple positions, running back was not one of them. While I think many fans would love for Trevor to transfer to Clemson, I don’t think that is in the cards right now.
Additionally, Etienne chose a different school in the first place because he wanted to set a path separate from his older brother. He had a good 2023 season for the Gators, and I believe he will have plenty of choices for his next destination.
Antwane ‘Juice’ Wells has been projected to land at Ole Miss. Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart has not announced if he will be returning to Oxford for another season, but it seems most people think he will play for Ole Miss one more season. If he does, some are already considering him a contender for the 2024 Heisman. Wells could benefit greatly from being a target for Dart.
