Clemson Football: The highest-rated cornerbacks in the transfer portal
By John Chancey
Jermod McCoy
Like Stout, Jermod McCoy is a 4-star transfer target per 247Sports who was rated as a 3-star prospect out of high school. He played at Whitehouse High School in Texas and selected Oregon State over other offers like Tulane, Louisiana Tech, and UL Monroe.
McCoy made a quick impression in Corvallis. He became the only true freshman to play in every game for the Beavers in the 2023 season.
With the head coach taking a new job and the program likely losing its status as a Power program, McCoy decided to seek a transfer from Oregon State. He would have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
McCoy also has multiple offers already, so his market is taking shape. While McCoy would have a lot of time left to play, he doesn’t exactly cover the question of experience. The Tigers already have three second-year guys in the program.
Kenan Johnson
Kenan Johnson was a member of the Class of 2019, so he has only one more season of eligibility. He is transferring out of Georgia Tech, so he is someone who wouldn’t have to relocate very far if the Tigers were interested in him.
He was a 3-star prospect out of Lake Minneola High School in Florida. He is rated similarly as a transfer. He was a starter for the Yellow Jackets this season and was the highest-rated performer on their defense per PFF.
Johnson is probably the kind of player that the Tigers would love to add from the portal at cornerback. The question is whether Clemson is what Johnson is looking for. He would get a chance to compete for a starting position, but it would be far from guaranteed. Terrell probably has one spot locked up and Lukus would have a big head start on the other side.
